Old Town Alexandria is probably the most recognized and notable area of Alexandria, especially to visitors. Here you can take an outdoor walking tour to learn about some of the nation's most interesting and important history, see artists create masterpieces at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, take a look at Spite House- the skinniest home in the country, shop over 100 boutiques, take a sight-seeing cruise on the Potomac, or enjoy countless amazing restaurants. Alexandria has a growing and loved restaurant scene. 

In addition to being walkable and beautiful, Alexandria has plenty of areas to enjoy the outdoors. The newly renovated waterfront is a popular spot for a jog along the path. There are also more than 70 great community parks to enjoy the outdoors including Founders Park on the water and Dora Kelly Park.

Schools in Alexandria Virginia

The public schools of Alexandria are all part of the Alexandria City Public Schools. This district serves over 15,000 diverse students from more than 145 countries. There are 12 elementary schools with K-5 programs, two schools with PreK-8 programs, two middle schools with 6-8 programs, a ninth-grade center, and one high school.  The public high school of Alexandria, T.C. Williams High School, gained national recognition with the movie "Remember the Titans." In July 2021 it will be named Alexandria City High School. 

In addition to public schools, Alexandria is home to many of the D.C. area's top private schools. Some of the most notable private schools in Alexandria include: St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School, Bishop Ireton High School, and Episcopal High School. 

There are a few colleges located in Alexandria including the Alexandria Campus of Northern Virginia Community College, Virginia Theological Seminary, Virginia Tech's Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center in Old Town, Virginia Commonwealth University Northern Branch, and The George Washington University.
